Midori, a remarkable green liqueur with a taste of sweet melons that’s a staple of today’s bars, was incorporated into the vodka martini with the purpose of highlighting its distinctive taste. It is paired with citrus vodka, and an elderflower liqueur, such as St. Germain, is used to enhance its delicate taste. With both the sugar rim and melon ball garnish, this cocktail makes for one stunning cocktail that defies its ease of preparation.
This fruity green cocktail is great for New Year’s Eve parties. It makes a perfect fruity drink with the added bonus of being a New Year’s Eve cocktail. Though it’s called the “ball drop,” this drinks is so good, you won’t want to wait until the end of the year to drink them. You can serve this drink on the rocks in a stemmed wine glass if you like, just a couple ice cubes will be needed to maintain the garnish.
Tips
- The melon ball should be skewered on a cocktail pick, with its vertical leg resting on the edge of the glass to complete the “ball drop” effect.
- If you plan to juice the same lemon to make the drink, wet the rim of the glass with it. By cutting the lemon in half, you will squeeze the juice into the shaker and wipe down the edges of the lemon half. Then, pour another vodka flavored with another flavor.
- Berry, coconut, pineapple, or vanilla would be great options but almost any will do.
